Is Breakfast important? Think Again

The old adage that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day is actually not true.

It is actually healthier to skip breakfast and let your body have time to regenerate. Limitting consumption of foods and calorie-containing beverages to a set window of eight hours per day and abstaining from food for the remaining 16 hours is a booster for weight loss and also known as intermittent fasting and part of the Mediterranean lifestyle. A better strategy for a healthy lifestyle is to skip breakfast and eat a balanced lunch and dinner with the addition of snacks throughout the day. This way, you give your body a break between dinner and lunch the next day so to allow your body time to digest properly.

I'll be starving by lunch time and I'm used to eating in the morning to gain energy.

You will be surprised how energized you will feel once your body gets used to intermittent fasting.

If you try this at first and you are used to eating breakfast, you will find it is hard. But once you get into the routine it will become easier and you will start to see the benefits such as weight loss and feel more energized.

Start off slow when you are getting started. It is recommended that you start in steps. Instead of having breakfast, have your first healthy snack (healthy being the key word) around 10 am. For example, replace bagels or muffins with pieces of fruit, greek yoghurty and/or a piece of cheese. After this, you can shift this "late breakfast" or snack steadily further until you feel comfortable with fasting until lunch time.

You might notice a change in your digestion. This is natural as your body has to get used to the daily clean-up break. Try to eat as many apples as you can as they contain pectin, which is a natural substance in apples that support digestion.

Does this mean I can't have my coffee in the morning?

You can still have your coffee or tea in the morning; however, try to drink it without milk or sugar. Oat milk is a good replacement instead. Also Honey can work as a good substitute for the sweetness you crave; even though Honey contains carbohydrates, it can help give you healthy antioxidents that your body needs. Try the Jamailah Alpine Flower Raw Honey.
